Miami Dolphins Adopt Litecoin as the Team’s Authorized Cryptocurrency

US football team Miami Dolphins recently announced that they have chosen the Litecoin (LTC) as their official cryptocurrency.

Crypto and Football Team Collaboration

A recently released press statement revealed that the cryptocurrency and the professional football team have collaborated with payment processing company Aliant Payments to help set up cryptocurrency payments the Miami Dolphins’ 50/50 raffle.

Crypto users can allegedly buy tickets to the raffle using Bitcoin (BTC) and LTC. They can make their purchase either online or at the Hard Rock Stadium’s kiosks. Half of the proceeds from the raffle will be donated to charity.

Aside from being one of the designated cryptocurrencies for the Dolphins’ raffle event, fans can expect to see Litecoin in the team’s in-game branding. Several ad opportunities will also feature the crypto.

Charlie Lee on the Topic

Charlie Lee, Litecoin developer and Litecoin Foundation managing director, said that he hopes this new collaboration will help educate more people on Litecoin and other cryptocurrencies.

He said the partnership with the Miami Dolphins will push Litecoin in front of millions of fans worldwide. He took note of the fortuitous timing as the use of crypto is gaining momentum and the technology is now capable of supporting cases that haven’t been previously possible.

The Dolphins is just the latest sports team to embrace cryptocurrency. Last month, Portuguese club SL Benfica opened up their tickets and merchandise to cryptocurrency payments. The sports club paired up with crypto service firm Utrust to promote this new payment system. Now SL Benfica supporters can pay for their tickets using BTC, Ether (ETH) and the Utrust token (UTK).
